In developing the laser, Czech and British scientists surpassed competing teams from the United States, Japan and France.
Operation of the world’s most powerful laser commenced at the HiLASE centre in Dolní Břežany on Monday, 23 January 2017. Only internal employees will work with the Bivoj laser at the beginning; it will be made available to companies in the second half of 2017.
Czech and British scientists surpassed competing teams from the United States, Japan and France when they became the first to develop and, last year, test an extra high-power laser. The laser’s 1 kW performance enables it to work faster and more efficiently, and to thus machine larger surfaces of materials. It will be possible to use the laser in, for example, the aerospace industry for testing components that are subjected to high degrees of stress, such as landing gear.
Representatives of HiLASE took part in CzechInvest’s mission to South Korea focused on laser systems, optics, optoelectronics and photonics.
